OrganoRivet LLC is a limited liability company dedicated to research, development, manufacturing,
and marketing of adhesives and other chemical products. Organo is a prefix meaning organic. Rivet,
by the definition of Merriam-Webster, is "a headed pin or bolt of metal used for uniting two or
more pieces by passing the shank through a hole in each piece and the beating or pressing down
the plain end so as to make a second head." Adhesive is a substance bonding together different
substrates.
As science and technology advances, adhesives have evolved to replace traditional rivets
partially or even completely in many applications. Nowadays, adhesives are widely used in the
industries of consumer electronics, transportation, recreational vehicles, and wind turbines. |
Using adhesives has many advantages over mechanical riveting:
- Adhesives lower the cost by eliminating or reducing expensive rivets. It also saves money by
reducing labor. Adhesives could be applied with dispensing guns or volumetric pumps, which could
be highly automatic, while riveting requires beating or pressing down a rivet's plain end to make
a second head.
- Adhesives could be evenly applied over two surfaces to be bonded together, thus the stress on
bonding could be evenly distributed over two bonded surfaces, generating stronger bonding. With
riveting, the stress is only imposed on where rivets are used, making rivets bear excessive stress.
- Adhesives produce a much more aesthetic effect by eliminating the rivets.
- Adhesives create a barrier which make the bond more water resisting.
